March 2004 NEWSLETTER

Good Day Post #57 Member!

Enclosed is a copy of the minutes from the February 17th Post meeting.  Our next meeting is on March 16th.  Please bring the enclosed copy of the last meeting’s minutes with you if you can attend.

The folding doors are up and we were able to have the Auxiliary meeting and the Post meeting at the same time.  The Auxiliary held their meeting on the kitchen side and the Post’s was held on the bar side.  Afterwards, we all enjoyed food prepared by Dolly and Bernadine.

Do you play Bingo?  Have you played with us?  We always have a great time and the more people that come and play, the larger the pots are!!  On January 25th, we had approximately 30 people playing the regular games were each over $20 and the 90/10 split game paid out over $60!!  We thank the folks from Seligman who came but we also had some new faces from right here.  Come and join us and see what you are missing!!  Dates are listed below.

Make sure you join us on 20 March at 4pm for our first Membership Appreciation Social.  We will have a pay-as-you-go bar, snacks and games.  All Post and Auxiliary members are welcome and please feel free to bring guests.  If you have any suggestions on what we can do, call Barry at the Post (637-2254) or me at home (637-2240).  And, thanks to Alva Brown, we will even have door prizes!!  For those of you who live out of state, if you happen to be visiting on 20 March, make sure you stop by!

March is a month of Commander’s Dinners.  There are four being held, one at Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, Prescott and Williams.  See the specific dates and times below.  These dinners are not requirements for members but there is one of special note.  The Commander’s Dinner at the Grand Canyon Post on 26 March will see our own Fred Fernow presented with acknowledgment of his 50 years as a Legionnaire.  We encourage all Post and Auxiliary members to attend.  If you need transportation, let us know.

Do you know where your DD Form 214 is?  We would like to have members provide us a copy of their DD Form 214 so we can have it on file.  It is not a Legion requirement (except for Post officers) but it would be helpful to have one on file in case something happens to you.  We learned a lot from the passing of Paul Howe and what documents are very important to locate easily.

After reviewing the roster we received from National Headquarters, I noticed some key items are missing.  Mostly missing is the branch of service and war era data.  If I’m missing your information, there will be a hand-written note on the bottom this newsletter.

If you have any other ideas for activities for the Post, please let us know!  Come share your ideas with us at the next Post meeting on March 16th.  Remember, this is your post and your inputs do matter.

Do you have an email address?  Have you sent it to me?  If not, please do so.  My email address is rockin_g@netzero.com .  Make sure you let me know who you are when you send me the email so I know whom the email address belongs to.

If you have an article or piece of information that you think would be of interest to the whole Post, let me know and I will include it in the first newsletter after receiving the information.  You can get me the information by emailing me, dropping it off at the Post or mailing it to the Post at P.O. Box 45 or calling me at 637-2240.
